Okwuosa’s New Bill Seeks to Transform Anambra’s Correctional System, Reduce Crime

Recent fazing cases of criminalities in the state pose a major concern to Sir Azuka Okwuosa, the leading APC Contender in the forthcoming Anambra South Senatorial bye-election.

Knowing that mere imprisonment without proper rehabilitation is not enough because the emotional negative effects of imposed prison isolation renders the criminal a greater threat to society than he had been previously increases the concern of Chinyelugo, thereby prompting him to come up with bills that will establish correction, reformation and re-integration Centres that will provide support services for prisons.

Chinyelugo also knows that when a criminal serves a prison term without undergoing rehabilitation, it can have a significant negative impact on the society by increasing the likelihood of re-offending, creating a cycle of crime, straining social services, and potentially causing further harm to communities due to the offender’s lack of skills to reintegrate into society and find legitimate means of income.

Anticipatedly, the proposed rehabilitation bill will ensure decongestion of prisons, reduce re-offending by addressing the underlying causes of crime; promote public safety by enabling ex-offenders to become productive members of society and it is very cost-effective because investing in rehabilitation programs can be more cost-effective in the long run compared to the expenses associated with repeated incarceration.
